About
What is a Charter School?
Charter schools are public schools that operate with an agreement (or charter) with a state, school district, or governmental entity to provide an enhanced education that is often unavailable within the conventional public schooling setting. These schools are open to all students, do not charge tuition, have no religious affiliation, and must abide by the same state and federal testing, financial, anti-discrimination, health, and safety regulations as all public schools. They typically have higher levels of parent, student, and community involvement and often realize higher student achievement.
Charter schools were established to offer families public school alternatives that foster innovation and accountability. Coppell Classical Academy is part of the Founders Classical Academy family of schools within ResponsiveEd. We fulfill that promise through a classical model that nurtures the mind and forms the character.
Our campus is small by design, which gives it a private school atmosphere where parents, faculty, and staff can work together for the benefit of each child. Though it may seem like a small private school, it is an established, tuition-free public school of choice.
How do Founders charter schools differ from traditional district schools?
We believe the end, or goal, of public education in America is to form responsible citizens and virtuous people who are prepared to flourish. Coppell Classical Academy is a tuition-free public charter school within the Founders Classical Academies network. At our campus, you will encounter:
- A distinctive curriculum. We teach a classical liberal arts curriculum, not a general, one-size-fits-all program.
- Carefully chosen materials. We select instructional materials and programs that match our mission, including great literature, primary sources, Latin, and Singapore Math.
- High expectations. We set high standards for both student conduct and academic mastery. We also give students the support they need to meet and exceed them.
- A culture of learning and character. Our school culture is marked by virtue, order, and spiritedness. Faculty and staff model the character we hope to form in our students.
Coppell Classical Academy's Approach
At Coppell Classical Academy, we believe education is not merely the transfer of facts. It is the pursuit of wisdom and virtue. As a tuition-free public charter school and part of the Founders Classical Academies family, we offer a vigorous classical liberal arts education, once reserved mostly for private institutions, to families in our community.
Our approach rests on three foundations:
- A Mindset. Education is a moral enterprise. We form self-governing young people who pursue excellence and contribute to the common good.
- A Body of Knowledge. Students follow an intentional, content-rich sequence of study. Through great literature, primary sources, history, mathematics, science, Latin, and the fine arts, they build both cultural literacy and intellectual depth.
- An Instructional Method. Our teaching follows the classical Trivium. Each stage builds on the one before it and matches how children naturally grow as learners:
- Grammar (K–5): students gather the building blocks of knowledge.
- Logic (6–8)*: students learn to reason and to form sound arguments.
- Rhetoric (9–12)*: students learn to express truth with clarity and grace.
*Coppell Classical Academy serves students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In the Grammar years, our students build a strong foundation of knowledge in reading, writing, mathematics, history, science, Latin, and the arts, along with a sense of wonder about the world. In sixth grade, they enter the Logic stage and begin learning to ask why, to reason carefully, and to support their ideas with evidence. They leave Coppell ready to continue the classical path at a Founders Classical Academy middle school or wherever their education takes them next.
Our classrooms are marked by virtue, order, and spiritedness. Clear expectations and consistent routines protect instructional time. Thoughtful dialogue and a spirit of wonder keep learning alive. Together they prepare students to think well, speak persuasively, and flourish in every part of their lives.
We invite our students to pursue what is true, do what is good, and love what is beautiful.
